Troubleshooting

Physics Draw

All Carbon nodes have Physics Draw allowing some degree of visualization of the object or constraint created.

This is enabled by default in order to speed up the troubleshooting of your scene.

Especially when it comes to Carbon Cloth nodes, using Physics Draw can help highlight issues, such as wrong Outer Fatness values, which might otherwise be hard to spot.

Note

Physics Draw can be disabled on a per node basis or globally for all objects in the same simulation by using the Physics Draw master switch on the Carbon Simulation node.

Debug Messages

When the simulation Debug Output box is ticked, a report will be output into the Houdini Console window every time a Carbon Simulation event occurs (simulate, reset, etc.).

This is extremely useful to understand why some of the Carbon nodes do not produce the expected result. Especially with the Constraint Nodes which can be more difficult to set up.

If you do not wish to see the console output, simply untick Debug Output.

Simulation Not Starting

There can be several situations where the Carbon Simulation plug-in is not running as expected.

Assuming that the installation process hasn’t been interrupted or tinkered with, most of the time it will be because of a license problem (not enough licenses available or no valid license file has been found). This scenario is usually quickly diagnosed by looking for errors on the Carbon Simulation node. If you are using an evaluation license you can contact support@numerion-software.com for help setting up your license. If you are using floating licenses, it is probably best to contact your company’s relevant systems/IT department who should be in charge of managing your licenses.

License Check

The second most likely cause of problems is an incompatibility between the Carbon plug-in version and the Houdini version. Our plug-ins are created for specific (Production) Builds of Houdini. While plug-ins might work for other Houdini Builds, if their versions are close enough, we cannot guarantee any given plug-in to work with any other Houdini (Production) Build than the specific one the plug-in was created for.

If you require support for a a specific Build, please request a compatible plug-in by contacting support@numerion-software.com.
